YA Movie News Roundup

It’s been an exciting couple of weeks in YA movies news!

-The rumor mill is going crazy with Hunger Games casting news: Hailee Steinfeld confirmed to MTV that she’s spoken with director Gary Ross about playing Katniss, and Entertainment Weekly and Variety both had pieces about potential Katnisses. I don’t know about you all, but I can’t take this much more! I hope they finish casting and make the announcement soon.

Beastly, based the novel by Alex Finn, opened third at the box office on Friday.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 got an official worldwide release date of July 7.

-Author Lauren Oliver announced on her blog that her second novel, Delirium (reviewed on The Hub in January)┬áhas been optioned by Fox 2000. I loved Delirium, and I think it could make a really great movie – hopefully we’ll hear more about this soon!

-Last but not certainly not least, exciting news from Australia: a script for Melina Marchetta’s Jellicoe Road, the 2009 Printz winner, has been selected as one of five scripts for Screen NSW’s Aurora feature film script workshop. (Thanks for @4everYA for the link).

-Emily Calkins, just about to start The Reapers are the Angels, a 2011 Alex Award winner
