Are you under twenty years old? Are you a writer looking for a chance at publication? Here’s a great opportunity to try your hand at a short story. The topic of the story is about twenty. Anything and everything to do with “twenty” but Teen Voices is particularly looking for stories that deal with growing up it seems, according to the guidelines. You can read all the rules for the 20 Under 20 Short Story Competition here.
And to get you in the spirit of writing, take a look at some of these excellent books about writing. There is perhaps none better out there than Stephen King’s writing memoir, On Writing which came out with its tenth anniversary edition in July 2010. There is also Susan M. Tiberghien’s One Year to a Writing LIfe: Twelve Lessons to Deepen Every Writer’s Art and Craft. For the actual under twenty crowd who may be searching for a writing book a little less daunting, Seize the Story: A Handbook for Teens Who Like to Write by Victoria Hanley is a great startingi place. Writing and Publishing: The Ultimate Teen Guide by Tina P. Schwartz may also be a useful tool. There is also the Teen Ink magazine which has been publishing aspiring teen writers since 1989.
Of course, Teen Voices is lending its own hand for inspiring writers by creating Write Now! story writing workshops to help inspire, motivate, and get the under twenty crowd writing. This is a great opportunity but the deadline is close. All entries must be received by March 21, 2011, so those under twenty, get inspired and get writing! You could win a Kindle and see your work published. Pretty darn impressive for being twenty or younger.
