You know what I like about the Popular Paperbacks list (or, PPYA)? I love the themes the committee comes up with each year. The themes for 2012 are Adventure Seekers, Forbidden Romance, Get Your Geek On, and Sticks and Stones. I’m sure I will end up reading my way through the Forbidden Romance list when it comes out next January. In the meantime I can definitely add to my “to read” list by checking out the nominations throughout the year. The nominations list has been recently updated and can be found here http://www.ala.org/ala/mgrps/divs/yalsa/booklistsawards/popularpaperback/nominations.cfm
The other thing I like about it is that it’s a list of paperbacks, which means that often the titles have not been just published and it’s a great way for me to be reminded of books that I somehow didn’t read when they first came out in hardcover. For example, I notice that Magic Under Glass is one of the nominees. I’ve had that book sitting on my bedside table for literally months. I keep meaning to pick it up and now, seeing it so handily described as “A trapped fairy prince and the girl who sees beyond. Star-crossed doesn’t cover it.” I definitely will!
