Fall Books

I spend a fair amount of my time figuring out what young adult books and graphic novels I should buy for my library.  My “to read list” just keeps getting longer and longer, but there are three books I can’t wait to read that I tried (and failed) to get ARCs of them at Comic Con.  The biggest problem I have is figuring out which one to read first since they are released within two days of each other!

The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson

Instead of trying to explain the book myself, here is a the author introducing the book to her fans:

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins

Lola is a companion book to one of my favorite books I read last year, Anna and the French Kiss. Words can not describe how much I loved that book, so when I found out that a companion book was coming out and set in San Francisco, I couldn’t contain my glee.  In fact, I am so desperate to get a sneak peak at Lola that I just pre-ordered the paperback version of Anna just so I can read the first chapter of Lola.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

I don’t know a lot about this book other than it has gotten a lot of buzz and the cover is amazing, so I added it to my reading list.  The teaser trailer doesn’t give away much:

I picked up ARCs of Lola and the Boy Next Door and Daughter of Smoke and Bone at ALA! I devoured Lola and LOVED it. I think Stephanie Perkins is a genius with dialogue, and she seems to remember exactly what it feels like to be a teenager falling in love. I just started Daughter of Smoke and Bone last night; I’m only 45 pages in, so I’m not sure about the plot yet, but the writing is lovely.

    Good picks, Faythe!

  2. I heard Maureen Johnson talk about NAME OF THE STAR at LeakyCon (yes, I went to a Harry Potter convention!), and it sounded fantastic. I STILL haven’t read ANNA…, and know I’m missing out. Stephanie Perkins was also at the convention, and she’s just adorable. I’ll try to pick it up this weekend!

I picked up ARCs of The Name of the Star and Lola and the Boy Next Door at ALA. Both were fantastic! I’m looking forward to Daughter of Smoke and Bone, too.
