Actors of recent YA novels-turned-films have become major stars in eagerly anticipated movies. Kristen Stewart of Twilight fame is staring in the blockbuster Snow White and the Huntsman–not to mention Breaking Dawn Part 2, which comes out in November. Here is a look at where some her fellow big-name YA novel favorites are now.
Alex Pettyfer played the lead role in two popular books-turned-movies in 2011. He played John Smith/Number Four in I Am Number Four. He also brought to life the rude and spoiled Kyle Kingson from Alex Flinn’s Beastly. He will now be seen in the stripper movie Magic Mike with Channing Tatum, which will be in theaters June 29th.
Robert Pattinson may always be best know as Edward in Twilight or Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire, depending on which fanbase you hail from. His latest projects take him far away from those roles. Bel Ami, a period film, came out on June 8th. He plays Georges Duroy, who womanizes his way to power in Paris. Also this year he starred in the indie French film Cosmopolis with Juliette Binoche. And, of course, the obvious film for him this year is the last of the Twilight movies, Breaking Dawn Part 2, along side his real life love, Kristen Stewart.
When he is not on the stage, Daniel Radcliffe is following Robert Pattinson’s lead and starring in more cerebral titles. He will star alongside Mad Men‘s Jon Hamm in the UK mini-series A Young Doctor’s Notebook, which is based on the book of the same title by Mikhail Bulgakov. He will also play poet Allen Ginsberg in the film Kill Your Darlings. We will see both of these in 2013.
Radcliffe’s Harry Potter co-star, Emma Watson, is starring in one of the most anticipated YA novels-turned-films of this year, The Perks Of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. The book made the 2000 YALSA Best Books For Young Adults list. The Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev is also in the film along with Percy Jackson star Logan Lerman.
Besides signing up for the film Catching Fire, based on the 2010 Ten’s Top Ten book, the young stars of the franchise have been busy. Jennifer Lawrence is slated to reprise her role as the young Mystique in the next X-Men movie. We will have to wait until 2014 for that one. Liam Hemsworth will star in the film Love and Honor. Josh Hutchinson will star in Red Dawn along side Hemsworth’s brother, Thor star Chris Hemsworth.
