  1. Alissa Alissa

Here’s an idea for a poll:

What (fictional) book within a book do you most want to read?

For example, Hogwarts a History (from Harry Potter) or An Imperial Affliction (from The Fault in Our Stars)

  2. Hi.
One idea I had for a poll (I’m new to the site so sorry if it has been used before) is the best/worst first impressions. For explain: The Secret Like of Prince Charming by Deb Caletti, so the main character Quinn opens the bathroom door to Jake, and Jake is naked and going to the bathroom while Quinn is in her PJs because its quite early in the morning. The next morning when they see each other he says to her “This is what I look like with clothes on.” Or maybe Remy and Dexter in This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen. I though the meeting of Sam and Jase was cute in My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick.

Also, I couldn’t help but notice that some books repeat themselves in the polls a lot. I’ve seen a lot of Harry Potter, Hunger Games, The Fault in our Stars (actually… anything John Green), Anna and the French Kiss, The Knife of Never Letting Go. These are great books and obviously well known, but there are great books out there that aren’t as well known but still great. When you put Hunger Games in a poll or Harry Potter, many people know them so a lot of people will vote for them because people don’t know the other choices and it seems that the other choices don’t get a chance.

Comments are closed on some of the polls I’ve seen, but for the best boyfriend poll I thought of Ethan of Beautiful Creatures, or for the best friend poll I thought of Melina Marchetta books, like one time a character (Jude) in Jellicoe Road, when asked who those group of people were he responded: They’re my best friends. I’m going to know them until the day I die. I was sad that they weren’t included, but I did like the choices of Adam, Sam, and Xander in the boyfriend poll, but then Etienne won, again.

Wow this is really long, still, I can’t wait for more polls to come out!

    • Hi Sarah,

Thanks for the first impressions poll idea! I’ll see if we can come up with something good.

And the reason that big titles like Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, and the other titles you mentioned keep showing up is because when we don’t include them, we get a lot of comments asking why we’ve omitted them! I agree with you that they sort of spoil polls because you know they’re going to win, but that popularity also means that people protest when we don’t include them.

We only have one poll open at once; you can vote in it in the sidebar on the right. We post the poll (and a recap of the previous week’s poll) on the blog every Monday, so keep an eye out for future questions!
